Hashtag Projects: A group of people (online), each creating around a common theme for a limited time, like a month.
The organizers often have a list of simple rules. They may ask for your social media site so that they can create a list of participants.
When you post a photo or tweet using your social media the way you always do, you use the appropriate #hashtag after it, so that everyone else in the hashtag project group will see it.
It’s a great way to share your creativity in a short amount of time with a small, focused group of people – online.
One friend reported an increase in followers, some of whom have started up actual conversations with them through social media. Another friend has been using these creative prompts to build up material for her blog, enjoying the creative processes as she goes.
Marketers online will be the first to say that having a strong community is a great way to share about your project. However, as I read the other day, use social media to be SOCIAL. Have fun online. Share your creativity, your personality, your expertise.
First, check out Amy’s Inkwell (http://amysinkwell.wordpress.com), who is, in her words, a reader, writer, and photographer. You will see this truth through her hashtag projects. (#hashtagprojects)
I realize that these projects started on the 1st of August and today is the 10th of August. Yes, I am a little late in making this connection. However, thanks to the perpetual scheduling of the internet, it’s not too late for you. Try one. Find another. Make up one of your own. Meet some new people who are interested in the same thing you are.
These are the projects of which I have been a part:
http://lettermo.com/ Using: #LetterMo
(This is actually off-line and involves sending postcards or notecards through the mail. It counts because it started online and I found it through Twitter.)
http://taralazar.wordpress.com/piboidmo2010/ – PIBOIDMO 2012 (even though the link says 2010) PIcture BOok IDea MOnth. #piboidmo2012
(I came up with nearly 30 Picture Book ideas and discovered something about myself and my tastes in writing and illustration.)
And if you find a hashtag project that is coming up, please share with me, so that I can share (and maybe join in!)
